The following diagram gives a little overview of the organizational history of current Neshobe Farm family of enterprises. We'll elaborate on this in a blog post to the neshobefarm.com website soon, but this at least gives a basic picture of where things stand in terms of co-mingled entities and objectives on the farm today.
VEDA Co springs from a conjunction of ideas and opportunity that were sparked during a year-long road trip through intentional community sites in the western States, that ended with Ben meeting Chuck at Avalon Springs in California briefly, and learning about the Neshobe development. Things were left to marinate for a time during the brunt of economic downturn, but came to the forefront again for Ben in Ashland, Oregon during 2011 while working with several visionaries to formulate support systems for a network of "Gaia Villages" as resilient educational and residential commons spaces world-wide.
Neshobe quickly stood out as a top candidate site for prototype launch of one such landed venture, being well into a long-term public-benefit planning process that included all the features of a Gaia Village. Progress on conventional tracks had stalled for capital and market slump, and so the small catalyst team of eco-preneurial adventurers--including Hannah who had already invested some years here growing the agricultural system on site--geared up for expanded action on a very "grass roots" collaborative platform. And that's where we carry on from today! Adaptable and optimistic...
