During chilly Northeast winter months, it makes sense to be indoors, and in development--hacking together inventive prototypes for a range of eco-spiffy lifestyle enhancement applications. There's lots to chew on, lots of compelling need in this world for simple, effective, common-good technologies and solutions. There's room to do things rather differently, in terms of the conventions around ownership and self-promotion. We're having fun moving forward out in the open, with an aim towards reverberating positive impact before profit or income.
What are the immediate goals and challenges? We'd like to deliver a couple of prototypes by the end of winter. We want to build coherence and agility as a team. We are cultivating the story lines which help to give human dimension to our work and our worth. Our work is centered in the shop, around research, and on the (digital, mostly) drafting table. Out of a wide range of interests and opportunities, we're zooming in on some promising early offerings. You'll see some proposals and a roadmap through here shortly.
We're looking for win^3: producers, peers, and planet all coming out in the green and feeling groovy. This means moving away from proprietary, protectionist measures and contractual negotiation. We believe our work has far-reaching value, and that the more of it--the story of it--that we share helps to make that obvious and worth recognizing. This is about demonstrating an abundant open culture, where everyone is free to participate, contribute, and benefit in accordance with the collective interest for well-being and evolution.
There is a larger vision at work too: we want to compile a neat and complete starter kit for transition settlement, the Gaia Village Catalyst System. We're building a modular catalogue that will show up on the site here and hopefully, rapidly, in other corners of the web and world. Of note, this work is inspired by and functionally linked with the Open Source Ecology movement and their Global Village Construction Set. Think of this as GVCS' (prime), the mobile landing pod and lifeboat to get things geared up for eco-industry.
And, it's about much more than hardware: we are innovating with finance, land tenure, social architecture, even right down to the base paradigms of market economics and information technology. All at once, of course, agile and deft--or that's what the storyboard says! You're invited to suspend judgement and play along. There'll be an increasing output of documentation on as many of these tracks as we can roll with.
Wish us luck and luminosity! It's mondo-meta-transition-time. We'll keep you posted :)
